April Fools’ Day in the Texas and Red Dirt scene is a dangerous game… because honestly, half the time these “jokes” sound like something that could actually happen.
From fake rebrands to questionable festival rules and just believable enough band announcements, artists and festivals across the scene had a little too much fun this year. And if you caught yourself doing a double take before realizing what day it was… yeah, same.
Here are some of the best (and most convincing) April Fools’ pranks we saw yesterday:
Gruene Hall Becomes “Green Hall”
After years of people butchering the pronunciation… Gruene Hall says they’re making it easier on everyone by just changing the name.
No more “Groo-een” or “Grew-nee.” It’s GREEN now. Problem solved.

Josh Weathers says he’s covering the entire Bodyguard soundtrack.
And you know what… this is the one that people might actually want to be real.
Born & Raised Festival “Cowboy Hat Ban”

Born & Raised Festival had folks doing a double take after announcing cowboy hats would be banned in main stage viewing areas… supposedly to improve sightlines for fans. The graphic looked very official, which made it even more believable, and let’s be honest, this one probably caused a few mini heart attacks. Not long after, they cleared it up with, “Cowboy hats are staying right where they belong.” So yes, 100% April Fools… and also a good reminder you can’t have a Red Dirt festival without cowboy hats.

Treaty Oak Revival “Recycling Program”
Instead of fans throwing beers at the stage… Treaty Oak Revival “announced” they’d be introducing “West Texas Regenerate” bins at shows.
Honestly, one of the most believable ones of the day… and not the worst idea we’ve ever heard.
Silverada Teases Another Rebrand
They also joked that Silverada might be changing their name again… this time to Miguel & The Mallomars.
If you’ve followed their name history at all, this one definitely made you stop and think for a second.
Jack Ingram Had Everyone Going …Then Called Himself Out
Jack Ingram got in on the April Fools fun with a post that had fans raising an eyebrow… and maybe asking a few questions.
For a minute there, it felt just believable enough to be real.
And then… he followed it up and busted himself.

Payton Howie had fans doing a double take after announcing she’d been cast as the next Bachelorette.
And honestly… the way it was presented, you could almost see it.
For a second there, it felt legit.
