Fans of Colter Wall woke up to some tough news this week.
The Canadian singer-songwriter, known for his deep baritone voice and stripped-down cowboy country sound, announced that he’s stepping away from the stage for the foreseeable future.
In a message shared with fans on social media, Wall revealed he’s canceling the remaining dates on his current tour and taking what he called an “indefinite hiatus from live music.”
The reason, he says, comes down to his mental health.
Wall explained that he has been struggling while trying to keep up with the demands of touring, and that continuing to push through it has only made things worse. In the statement, he wrote that “the truth is that I am mentally unwell,” adding that staying on the road caused his mental health to decline further.
After talking it through with his team, the decision was made to cancel the remaining shows and step away from performing for now.
The announcement comes in the middle of Wall’s current tour cycle supporting his recent album Memories and Empties, with several shows still scheduled for March before the cancellation.
Fans who purchased tickets for the canceled dates will receive automatic refunds through the original point of purchase.
While there’s no timeline for when or if he’ll return to the road, the message from Wall was simple: right now, taking care of himself has to come first.
