Miranda Lambert’s MuttNation Foundation is expanding its mission in a big way.
The nonprofit has announced a three-year partnership with the Doris Day Animal Foundation to support its spay and neuter initiative, “It Takes Balls.”
The 2026 “It Takes Balls” campaign will focus specifically on Southern California, continuing the program’s effort to raise awareness about the importance of spay and neuter services and to support low-cost clinics.
The initiative launched in 2023 and has already made a major impact, providing more than 125 grants to qualifying low-cost spay and neuter programs across Texas and Tennessee.
Lambert says the partnership feels especially meaningful because of Doris Day’s legacy in animal advocacy.
“Everyone knows that Doris Day holds an unparalleled place in film and music,” Lambert shared. “But do they also know she started Spay Day USA in 1995, now known as World Spay Day? When I found out, I knew this was a perfect partnership and I want everyone to know about her enduring passion for animals.”
According to Doris Day Animal Foundation CEO Bob Bashara, continuing that legacy is a priority.
“Establishing Spay Day USA over 30 years ago and seeing it evolve into today’s World Spay Day was one of Doris Day’s proudest achievements in her pioneering animal welfare advocacy,” Bashara said. “As we carry on Doris’ legacy, we’re grateful that Miranda and MuttNation share our passion and dedication to reducing the homeless pet population and euthanasia rates.”
Grant applications for low-cost spay and neuter programs in Southern California are now open.
