Lawmakers in Oklahoma have passed a resolution to name a new turnpike corridor the Toby Keith Expressway, honoring the late country music star and Oklahoma native Toby Keith.
The proposed roadway is part of the state’s ACCESS Oklahoma expansion project. The corridor would connect Interstate 44 to Interstate 35, then continue east and north to Interstate 40 at Interstate 335, creating a new route around the Oklahoma City metro.
The resolution highlights Keith’s impact not only as a multi-platinum country artist, but also for his longtime support of the U.S. military. Over the course of his career, he performed more than 300 USO shows for troops stationed overseas.
The measure has passed the Oklahoma House and now heads to the Senate for consideration. If approved, the designated stretch of highway would officially carry the Toby Keith Expressway name.
