Dolly Parton just did what Dolly Parton does best … made history.
At 80 years old, the country icon landed a No. 1 song on Billboard’s Country Digital Song Sales Chart thanks to a newly recorded version of her classic song “Light of a Clear Blue Morning.” The updated version was released in January as part of Dolly’s 80th birthday celebration and features help from Reba McEntire, Lainey Wilson, Miley Cyrus, and Queen Latifah.
Dolly shared how grateful she was for the support, calling the chart-topping moment one of the best birthday gifts she could receive:
“This is the best gift I could receive! I want to thank the fans, all the radio programmers, and all the streaming partners. When I first started thinking about something special to do for my 80th birthday, I thought, ‘Lord, please give me a song – or something – to make the birthday special…to be a gift from me to other people for my birthday.’ When we were working on songs for my new museum in Nashville, ‘Light Of A Clear Blue Morning’ came on, and I went, ‘Oh! That’s it!’”
For some perspective: Dolly first appeared on the charts back in 1966 and nearly 60 years later, she’s still finding new ways to celebrate her music and her fans.
