An Oklahoma lawmaker is working on a plan to honor Toby Keith in his hometown of Norman. State Senator Lisa Standridge has filed a bill that would put his name on a bridge and a future roadway.
The proposal would rename the bridge over I-35 at Indian Hills Road as the Toby Keith Memorial Bridge. There’s also language for a future roadway that would be called Toby Keith Parkway, plus a potential bridge along that route that could carry the name “Should’ve Been a Cowboy Bridge,” as a nod to Toby’s first big hit.
Senator Standridge says the idea is to create something lasting in the community Toby called home, and to recognize the impact he had on both Oklahoma and country music.
Lawmakers will take up the bill in early February when the Oklahoma Legislature returns. If it passes, Toby Keith’s name could officially be added to the map in Norman.
