Steve Earle was the featured guest this week for the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s Poets & Prophets series, and it was exactly what you’d hope it would be: stories, songs, and zero fluff.
Earle sat down at the museum in Nashville and walked the crowd through his career, talking songwriting, influences, and the long road that got him here. He also played a handful of songs live, because what’s the point of a Steve Earle night without music?
The conversation was moderated by Allison Moorer and sprinkled with photos, video clips, and archival material that helped put his career into perspective. Between albums, books, plays, radio work, producing records, and generally leaving fingerprints all over Americana and country music, the guy has done a little bit of everything and it shows.
Over the years, his songs have been recorded by just about everyone, from Joan Baez and The Highwaymen to Emmylou Harris, Patty Loveless, Ricky Skaggs, and Miranda Lambert. He’s also picked up three Grammys, landed in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, and holds a spot in the Grand Ole Opry … not too shabby.
If you missed it in person, you’ll still get a chance to catch it. The event was filmed and will eventually be released as part of the museum’s Live at the Hall digital series.
