When the Texas Longhorns head to Orlando for the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl, they won’t be going alone. Bevo will be making the trip too and it’s one of the longest journeys the iconic Longhorn mascot has ever taken.
Texas is set to take on Michigan in the Citrus Bowl on December 31 at Camping World Stadium, and that means hauling Bevo all the way from Austin to central Florida. According to the folks who take care of him, this trip ranks among the longest road trips Bevo has made for a game.
Moving a live Longhorn isn’t exactly throwing him in the back of a pickup and calling it good. Bevo travels in a custom trailer, with plenty of planning involved to make sure he’s comfortable, safe, and well cared for every step of the way. That includes scheduled stops, special permits, and a whole team making sure everything goes smoothly.
This will also mark Bevo’s first appearance at the Citrus Bowl, matching Texas’ first trip to the game as well. It’s a long haul, but it’s part of the tradition because when Texas shows up, Bevo shows up too. (Unless it is at Kyle Field. Boo,)
So while fans are booking flights and packing burnt orange, just know Bevo’s doing the same… on a much bigger scale. One very big Longhorn, one long road trip, and one more Texas tradition rolling into bowl season.
Hook ’em.
