Miranda Lambert has always been one of the best storytellers in country music, and now she’s taking that storytelling beyond songs and straight to the TV screen.
The Texas native is stepping into the world of television as an executive producer on a new scripted series inspired by her music catalog. The project is currently in development with Sony Pictures Television and will be written and showrun by Judalina Neira. While it’s still early in the process, the concept already feels very on-brand for Miranda.
The series centers around two women whose close friendship helps one of them escape an abusive marriage. Together, they try to start over in a small Texas town, only to realize that fresh starts aren’t always as clean as they hope. Secrets, complicated relationships, and emotional baggage follow them into their new life.
Producers have described the show as having a “Big Little Lies” feel, but with a distinctly Texas, honky-tonk edge. If that sounds like the plot of about half of Miranda’s songs, that’s because it kind of is and that’s exactly why this makes so much sense. Her music has always been rooted in strong women, hard choices, heartbreak, and resilience, so translating that into a TV series feels like a natural next step.
There’s no release date yet and plenty of details still to come … we’ll keep an eye on this one as it develops, because if her songs are any indication, this series could be something special
