The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum is shining its next Poets and Prophets spotlight on one of the most influential storytellers in Americana and country music: Steve Earle.
The in-depth interview will take place Saturday, Dec. 20 at 2:30 p.m. in the museum’s Ford Theater, and it’s included with regular museum admission.
If anyone deserves a seat in this songwriter series, it’s Earle. The Texas native has worn just about every creative hat possible, singer-songwriter, producer, author, playwright, actor, activist, and even radio host. His songs have been recorded by a who’s who of legends, including Joan Baez, The Highwaymen, Miranda Lambert, Kathy Mattea, Bob Seger, Emmylou Harris, Patty Loveless, and Ricky Skaggs.
Over the course of his career, Earle has released 22 studio albums, produced 11 more for other artists (including Lucinda Williams’ iconic Car Wheels on a Gravel Road), and written everything from short stories to novels to stage plays. He’s also picked up three Grammy Awards, earned a spot in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, and most recently became a member of the Grand Ole Opry.
The Poets and Prophets interview will be led by Museum Writer-Editor Allison Moorer, who is not only a musician herself but also Earle’s former wife. The program will include rare photos, film clips, and archival recordings. After the conversation, fans will have the chance to meet Earle during a signing of commemorative Hatch Show Print posters.
