The boys from Alabama just picked up one of the biggest honors in country music, the Kris Kristofferson Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s Nashville Songwriter Awards at the Ryman Auditorium.
The night started with a special tribute to Kris Kristofferson himself before his wife, Lisa Kristofferson, presented the award to Teddy Gentry, who accepted on behalf of the band and paid tribute to Randy Owen and the late Jeff Cook.
Gentry kept it humble, saying,
“This award was a lifetime wish for me. Being honored for our songwriting is the most welcome accomplishment in my world.”
The Ryman crowd got to relive some of Alabama’s biggest hits, with performances from Jason Aldean, Lorrie Morgan, and Gordon Mote covering the classics “Mountain Music,” “Tennessee River,” and “Feels So Right.”
It was a well-deserved moment for one of the most influential bands in country history and a reminder that Alabama didn’t just give us hits, they gave us songs that defined an era of country music.
