It’s been a big year for Toby Keith fans between the tributes, re-releases, and rediscovered tracks, it feels like his music keeps finding new ways to remind us why he was one of the best to ever do it.
The latest surprise? A lost Toby Keith demo that sat untouched for about a decade has finally been released. The song’s called “End of the Night,” and it’s one Toby wrote with Bobby Pinson and David Lee Murphy years ago.
According to Pinson, it was one of those songs they all loved, but somehow it never made it onto an album. It just disappeared into the vault until now.
The original demo just dropped as part of Apple Music’s Lost & Found series, and hearing Toby’s voice on something brand-new (well, new to us) hits in a whole different way. It’s stripped-down, soulful, and pure Toby.
And here’s the cool part: Ernest, yes, that Ernest, is releasing his own version of “End of the Night” on October 10th. So we’ll get to hear what the next generation of country does with a Toby classic-in-the-making.
If you’ve missed Toby’s voice as much as we have, go give the demo a listen. It’s a simple reminder that even the songs he didn’t release could’ve been hits.
“End of the Night” is out on all streaming platforms as part of Apple Music’s Lost & Found series:
