It’s hard to believe, but James Taylor and yes, that James Taylor, has never stepped into the Grand Ole Opry circle. That all changes on Tuesday, November 11, when the five-time Grammy winner makes his official Opry debut.
Taylor’s not exactly a stranger to Nashville. Back in the late ’60s, Opry member George Hamilton IV helped bring Taylor’s “Carolina in My Mind” and “Sweet Baby James” into the country world, and over the years Taylor has teamed up with folks like Vince Gill and Alison Krauss.
And speaking of Vince Gill, he’ll be on the bill the night Taylor makes his debut, along with Emmylou Harris, Craig Morgan, Jamey Johnson, and even Gary Sinise & the Lt. Dan Band. Talk about a lineup.
Opry Executive Producer Dan Rogers summed it up perfectly: “To have one of the very best ever with us to celebrate 100 years is amazing to so many of us.”
So yeah, it may have taken him a few decades, but James Taylor is finally making his way into the Opry family and that’s a debut worth celebrating.
