We’ve got some tough news to share from Raul Malo and The Mavericks.
In a heartfelt video message, Raul revealed that his cancer battle has taken a serious turn. Doctors recently diagnosed him with Leptomeningeal Disease (LMD), a rare and difficult condition. Raul says he’s starting treatment immediately and that includes radiation, possibly chemo, and even some alternative therapies.
Because of this, The Mavericks have had to make the difficult call to cancel the rest of their 2025 tour dates. The only exceptions may be the two Nashville shows set for December 5th and 6th, which Raul asked fans to hold onto tickets for. The band is hoping to turn those into something truly special.
Raul was open and honest in his update, saying:
“We don’t know what this will look like a couple months from now, but we are going into it … full steam ahead. Fight, recover, rest, repeat.”
He also made a point to thank fans, family, friends, and his crew for the overwhelming love and support during this fight.
It’s not the kind of news any of us wanted to hear, but Raul’s message is filled with determination and hope. All of us here are sending love, prayers, and strength to him and The Mavericks family.
