Hey y’all, gather ‘round because some Texas greats are getting their time to shine!
The Texas Heritage Songwriters Association just dropped some exciting news: come February 21, 2026, at ACL Live in Austin, four legendary Texans are saddling up for induction into the Texas Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Here’s who’s riding into the Hall with style:
-
Don Cook – Think of him as the hit-making maestro behind the scenes. Born in Carrizo Springs, Don has helped pen 20 No. 1 country anthems, 13 of those with the legendary Brooks & Dunn, plus tunes for Alabama, George Strait, and Kenny Rogers. He’s also worn the executive hat at Sony/ATV during the ’90s and early 2000s .
-
Keith Gattis – Hailing from Georgetown, Keith’s soul-shaking vocals and guitar chops left a mark. He wrote “El Cerrito Place” (remember that one?) and crafted songs for the who’s-who of country: from George Strait to Willie Nelson. Though he’s no longer with us, his creative spirit sure lingers.
-
Miranda Lambert – Our very own Lindale, TX powerhouse! Miranda is the most-awarded artist in ACM history, with a string of No. 1 hits and albums including “Bluebird,” “Tin Man,” and “Automatic,” which she co-wrote. She’s also penned songs for stars like Morgan Wallen and Chris Stapleton, and her animal-loving heart has raised over $11 million through her MuttNation Foundation.
-
George Strait – AKA the King of Country Music. This Texan titan has racked up more than 110 million RIAA certifications. His tunes, whether honky-tonk heartbreakers or cowboy love stories, perfectly capture that classic Texas vibe. Plus, his philanthropic side has made a huge impact on military families and beyond.
So there ya have it. Don Cook, Keith Gattis, Miranda Lambert, and George Strait are being crowned with the Texas music honor of the year come February 21, 2026. Think of it as the Texas-sized songwriting Oscars!
