Singer/songwriter Richard “Kinky” Friedman has died, according to a post made Thursday on his official social media accounts. Friedman was 79 years old.
The University of Texas at Austin 1966 alumni, has died, according to a post made on his official X page. Friedman was 79 years old.
In 2006, Friedman ran as an independent candidate in the 2006 election for Texas Governor. He was one of two independent candidates that ran that year. He placed fourth out of six candidates with 12.6% of the vote.
Friedman will leave behind a legacy of columns he wrote for the Texas Monthly magazine, novels, and his songs from his days with formed Kinky Friedman and The Texas Jewboys.
Friedman passed away in his sleep Thursday morning at his Echo Hill Ranch near Kerrville.
