With the official premier date of Yellowstone’s Season 5 Part 2 likely being pushed back until 2024, Luke Grimes (AKA Kayce Dutton) gave us a fix that may just hold us over until then.
On October 20th, Grimes released his first EP as a solo artist, “Pain Pills or Pews” and it’s already the soundtrack to our fall season. The 8-track album leads with his debut single, “No Horse To Ride,” and matches the same sad-boy, Americana energy of 49 Winchester and Wyatt Flores. This comes as no surprise considering he grew up listening to his father’s old Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings records.
So what (or who) exactly inspired Grimes to make the jump from acting to music? None other than the one, the only, Lainey Wilson. In an interview with Billboard, he said “it was inspiring to watch Lainey step into those [acting] shoes,” and credits Wilson in helping him cope with the imposter syndrome that came with branching into the music industry.
As of now, Grimes wants to focus on getting more comfortable with performing and has 10 more shows left of his tour, including an appearance in Austin. Get your tickets to see him live at Emo’s on December 9th here!
