On this day 43 years ago, Mr. Johnny Cash was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame at the 14th annual CMA Awards. Kenny Rogers, who played on the Johnny Cash Show when he first got to Nashville, had the privilege of presenting Cash with the honor stating, “There are an awful lot of us who can sing country music, but there are very few of us who are country music.”
At the time, this marked only the second Hall of Fame induction for the Man in Black, as he became a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame just three years prior. To date, Johnny Cash is a nine-time Hall of Fame inductee including the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (1992) and the Gospel Hall of Fame (2011).
