Loretta Lynn has passed away at the age of 90 at her home in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee.
Her family released a statement to The Associated Press, stating that she passed.
Five years ago Lynn suffered a stroke and it was reported that she was planning her funeral at the end of September. The OK Magazine reported that she put her Nashville mansion on the market for just under $800,000. “Loretta wants to turn most of her physical holdings into cash so she doesn’t burden her kids and grandkids with having to sell off stuff when she’s gone,” a family friend dished. “But even more, she wants to plan her own memorial service so the day will go EXACTLY as she wants!”
Lynn already had four children before launching her career in the early 1960s, and her songs reflected her pride in her rural Kentucky background. In 1969, she released her autobiographical “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” which made her a household name.
Born Loretta Webb, the second of eight children, she claimed her birthplace was Butcher Holler, near the coal mining company town of Van Lear in the mountains of east Kentucky. There really wasn’t a Butcher Holler, however. She later told a reporter that she made up the name for the purposes of the song based on the names of the families that lived there.
