George Strait covered Billy Joe Shaver’s “Willy The Wandering Gypsy And Me” for the forthcoming tribute album, Live Forever: A Tribute To Billy Joe Shaver, The song was originally recorded by the one and only Waylon Jennings for his 1983 classic Honky Tonk Heroes album\
George says it was an honor to get to cover it:
“It was an honor to be a part of this tribute to one of Texas’s best. He got down deep into the very soul of country.

This new tribute album was co-produced by Charlie Sexton and Freddy Fletcher, and features an incredible cast of artists including Willie Nelson and Lucinda Williams, George Strait, Miranda Lambert, Nathaniel Rateliff, Ryan Bingham and Nikki Lane, Steve Earle, Edie Brickell, Rodney Crowell, Margo Price, Allison Russell, and Amanda Shires.
