After reigning over England for more than 70 years, we all thought Queen Elizabeth II would live forever; however, just minutes ago, Buckingham Palace announced Britain’s longest reigning monarch has passed peacefully at 96.
As her health continued to decline, “Operation London Bridge” was put in place to organize what would happen after she passed. Her son, Prince Charles, is now the unofficial king, and is rumored to make his first speech as head of state this evening. He will officially become King of England once the flags are raised from half mass on Friday at 11:00AM local time, though the coronation ceremony won’t be for another few months.
It’s estimated that in 10 days, Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral procession will broadcast to the globe and she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Prince Phillip, and her father, King George VI.
