Fast-rising “Heading South” singer-songwriter takes the stage on the LBJ Lawn as part of the Texas Football versus Texas Tech gameday experience
Austin, Texas – Singer-songwriter Zach Bryan will headline Longhorn City Limits as part of the Texas Football versus Texas Tech gameday experience on September 25. LCL, the acclaimed gameday concert series, returns for its third year on the LBJ Lawn, located on the northeast corner of DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium, with FREE pregame and postgame activities. All concerts are FREE and open to the public.
“We can’t wait to have Zach Bryan, one of the rising stars in country music, join us for Longhorn City Limits this season,” said Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director Drew Martin. “On top of his musicianship, we are honored to welcome such a talented young man who served our country honorably. We know Longhorn Nation will welcome him with open arms on September 25 for what will definitely be a memorable performance.”
Bryan, the 25-year old who spent 7 years in the US Navy, brings his signature raspy voice, a mix of classic folk melody and outlaw country with a raw edge that cuts to the bone. His breakthrough hit “Heading South”, who’s music video was shot by phone outside of his Navy barracks, has shot to the top of the charts since it was released in 2019. Zach’s debut album DeAnn – dedicated to his late mother – and his 2020 follow-up Elisabeth, have combined for over 240 million streams and counting. A man of simple words, Zach’s ability to create depth in his work is rivaled by few artists.
Briscoe, the Austin-based project of Truett Heintzelman and Philip Lupton, will open LCL on Sept. 25. Together, the rising act comprised of University of Texas students, released their debut full-length LP Flower Johnson in 2020 following their hit single “Sailing Away”. Briscoe draws inspiration from influences such as Neil Young, James Taylor, The Grateful Dead, The Beatles, Carole King, and Paul Simon while using a variety of instrumentation such as banjo, saxophone, cello, and harmonica.
In addition, fans can enjoy all of the LCL amenities on the LBJ Lawn including the Deep Eddy Lounge. This season, the cocktail garden will be twice as large with twice as much shade for fans ages 21 and older to enjoy craft cocktails. Fans can also enjoy happy hour pricing** at Longhorn City Limits, including $5 16-oz. domestic beers and $6 16-oz. premium beers. Stubb’s Bar-B-Q will also return to the lawn with the best BBQ in town.
