It’s pretty hard to have a song that is completely original. I mean most great songs are relatable so more than likely people have had the same idea before.
With that said here’s two songs from two different eras of country music that pull off the same concept perfectly.
First a song from the great Patsy Cline; released in 1962, ‘She’s Got You’. Patsy sings about all the “little things” the man from her past left her, while the new woman in his life has him.
“I’ve got the records, that we used to share, and they still sound the same. As when you were here. The only thing different. The only thing new. I’ve got the records. She’s got you”
Fast forward 60 years and you have Kyle Park, one of the most underrated singer/songwriter in the Texas scene, record ‘He’s Got You’ (just one letter shy in the title too) which is the same concept from a man’s perspective.
In my opinion, they’re both great. Can we call it a draw, why not, at least I will? Is this a concept that’s been done a million other times and I’m not aware of it? Probably, let me know if you know any. Jana Kramer has one with ‘I Got The Boy’. Kramer is another singer in my opinion who is underrated, she’s more country than most and that raspy voice gets me.
