I had no idea they are still making those Now That’s What I Call Music albums, but evidently they are and the latest one is pretty cool.
Now let me back up for a second, if you don’t know what a Now That’s What I Call Music album is here you go; it’s a CD with a collection of hit songs typically related to a genre, decade or year. Dozens of countries have their own series and many have seen great success in the United States with a bunch becoming certified platinum or gold and nearly every single one (Three to five each year since 1998) reached the billboard top five for a sixteen-year run.
Since 2014 they have not seen that sort of success and it’s probably due to the rise in streaming music, so they may be catering to the audience who still goes out and purchases hard copies of CDs with their latest, really cool album. Now That’s What I Call Outlaw Country
This collection includes standard outlaw artists like Johnny Cash Waylon Jennings, and Merle Haggard, and newer artists Like Miranda Lambert and Chris Stapleton, but what makes it really cool is that it includes the realest (is that a word?) but lesser-known outlaw artists such as Billy Joe Shaver and Jerry Jeff Walker. Below is the complete 18 song setlist.
