from Horns 247:
The burnt orange faithful might forever remember how the COVID-19 pandemic impacted the 2021 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship, but it’s forever going to be remembered as the event when No. 13 Texas defeated No. 12 Oklahoma State, 91-86, for a history-making victory at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Mo. The 2020-21 Longhorns and head coach Shaka Smart own the distinction of winning the program’s first-ever Big 12 Tournament title while becoming the first squad to bring a conference tournament championship back to the Forty Acres since 1995 and the first Big 12 program from the Lone Star State to win the conference tournament.
With the Big 12’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament in tow, Texas (19-7) is positioned to earn the program’s highest March Madness seed in more than a decade. Entering Saturday’s games, Jerry Palm of CBS Sports had Texas in the field of 68 as a No. 3 seed, which would surpass the No. 4 seed the Longhorns drew in 2011 and be the best for the program since D.J. Augustin and the 2008 club rode a No. 2 seed to the Elite Eight. Read more from Horns 247 here.
