Attach Miranda Lambert’s name to anything and you have my attention.
So when I saw that Luke Dick had a new song with the Longview native I gave it a spin and boy is it a good listen.
‘Polyester’ is a story of beating the odds but never outrunning those folks back home who remember who you were, good or bad. Lambert joins in the second chorus singing “Now I got a nice house in Tennessee / Ain’t got wheels, but it’s got AC … Million to one, I wouldn’t hit a gold record / There it is hanging on the wall.”
Now you may not be familiar with Luke Dick, but you have definitely heard many of the songs he’s had a hand in writing. He co-wrote five songs of Lamberts last album ‘Wildcard’, a few songs for his voice doppelganger Kip Moore, quite possibly the best Eric Church song ‘Kill a Word’ and countless other hits. He’s had minor success as a solo artist and in a group titled ‘Republican Hair’ neither of which would be considered a country act.
‘Polyester’ comes from the soundtrack to the film ‘Red Dog’ that premiered at last year’s South By South West which tells of Luke’s upbringing in a strip club.
“This soundtrack is directly inspired by the lives and characters in my documentary. For over 10 years, I interviewed my mother, fathers, dancers, musicians, cops and even some ghosts about the infamous Oklahoma City topless bar. They worked there, led their young lives there, and most of them lived to tell the tale,” -Luke Dick Via Taste of Country
