Aaron Watson’s new song ‘American Soul’ is just what this country need and the Honky Tonk kid knows it.
In a statement on social media, Aaron explains he didn’t plan on releasing this song till later in the year, but since the country is seeing an all-time high in hate and crazy (we see it about every four years or so) he felt it was important to release it now. Maybe it’s genius marketing, but Aaron who like anyone would love to see every one of his songs become a hit puts integrity before all else when sharing his art.
It really is a song for everyone without preaching. A heartfelt love letter to the spirit of our country.
It’s the words of “Amazing Grace”
And it’s “Born in the U.S.A.”
It’s those Yankees in the playoffs
Those Cowboys on a Sunday
It’s a red, white, and blue
It’s the yellow, brown, and black
It’s those rotten ol’ Republicans
And those darned ol’ Democrats
Since the lockdown, Aaron has done a lot of writing. He’s released two upbeat tracks this year with the hit ‘Whisper My Name’ and the 90s throwback ‘Silverado Saturday Night’ and then he goes a different direction with ‘American Soul’.
You’re a great songwriter/performer when you can go from summer tunes to a song that will kick you on your back with awe the first time you hear it. It’s nothing new from Aaron, in his last full album, the brilliant ‘Red Bandana’ he gave us ’58’ honoring those lost in the Route 91 Festival shooting. Before that, we got ‘July in Cheyenne’ and countless others.
Thank you Aaron for reminding us that all we need is a little love, to knock off a little rust. Take time to shine that penny, so we can read “In God We Trust”.
