Cody Johnson has been pretty open about how ‘Dear Rodeo’ is his favorite song he’s ever recorded and now he has a new version with the one and only Reba McEntire.
The song is a breakup song of sorts to Johnson’s career in rodeo. The song really hit Reba personally since she shared a similar experience.
“[Hearing the song] took me to the ’70s, when I realized that my rodeo career was going absolutely nowhere. And that I did have a God-given talent and I needed to be using it,” shares McEntire, whose father and grandfather were champion steer ropers. “This [song] was kind of a reminder that it’s going to be okay, that if you do leave rodeo for the music, you’re going to be okay. I knew I was going to miss it. And I was mad because I love that life of rodeo. I’m a third-generation rodeo brat.” –Reba via Taste of Country
Add Reba to any song and it’s just a little better.
Now Cody’s team has said that ‘Dear Rodeo’ will be his next national radio single. Will this be the version? We shall see.
