With so many people having to work from home to help “squash the line” … errr, I mean flatten the curve of the spread of Coronavirus, I thought to myself, self what are some of my favorite songs with the word HOME in the title.
(Ok, I didn’t really think that to myself … but web material times are tough and I’m trying to turn down the noise and turn up the music, so just work with me here y’all.)
Off the top of my head, here are my TOP TEN ‘HOME’ songs:
10. Motley Crue – Home Sweet Home
If hearing this song doesn’t immediately take you back to a much simpler place in time, that makes me sad for you. For me, the first few notes of “Home Sweet Home” instantaneously brings back the smell of Aqua Net hairspray, the taste of New Coke and the sting of rejection because no one asked me to couple skate.
9. Wade Bowen – If We Ever Make It Home
I can’t make a list of any kind of songs without including a Wade Bowen song. Thems the rules. I’m just glad he has one with the word HOME in the title or I would have had to round out this list with either Blake Shelton or Michael Buble. Thanks, Wade!
8. My Tennessee Mountain Home – Dolly Parton
Dolly is an angel. The End.
7. Homegrown Tomatoes – Guy Clark
Because there ain’t nothin’ in the world that I like better than a bacon and lettuce and homegrown tomato sandwich, but oh well … HEB is out of bread because you crazy people went and bought it all up. Shame on you.
6. Ozzy Osbourne – Mama, I’m Coming Home
Oh, the softer side of Ozzy. Psst … he didn’t write it about his “Mum.” (He wrote it about his wifeager Sharon. I read that on Wikipedia so it HAS to be true.)
5. Ricky Skaggs – Don’t Cheat In Our Hometown
This doesn’t really have anything to do with the song, but I just wanted to share this story with the world.
Before I got thrown out of a Radio Row event during CMA Award Week in Nashville a few years ago, I got to “interview” Mr. Skaggs and to date it is still one of my favorite career moments. He has the BEST sense of humor of anyone I’ve ever met and does NOT take himself too seriously.
My first question: “It is an honor to meet you Paula Deen – have you ever been to the CMA Awards?”
He almost fell down laughing.
My second questions was: “What kind of shampoo do you use because your hair looks amazing.”
Without missing a beat he said, “Girl, I got some of that Alyssa Milano Wen shampoo, you have got to try it!”
4. Homewrecker – Gretchen Wilson
Because sometimes you just have to go off on a real hot cookie with a new hairdo …
3. Shania Twain – Honey, I’m Home
Don’t act like you don’t sing along every time you hear this song. No one is buying that. Just admit it.
2. Gary P. Nunn – London Homesick Blues (Home With The Armadillo)
If it is good enough for Austin City Limits, it is good enough for this ridiculous list.
1. Charlie Robison – My Hometown
“Gonna pack my bags a little heavy this time gonna head my ass back home…”
Peace out, kiddos. Wash your hands!
