Kylie Rae Harris went to sing with the angels on September 4, 2019. The service to celebrate her life was held at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas on Wednesday, the 11th of September.
Born May 15, 1989 to Betsy Linscott Cowan and Mark Jeffrey Harris, Kylie was a gifted musician and storyteller. Her debut album All the Right Reasons was released in 2010 followed by an EP, Taking It Back in 2013. Her most recent release was a self-titled EP in early 2019.
Kylie found her love of music during many family road trips through the backroads of Texas and Oklahoma, harmonizing alongside Jerry Jeff Walker, Radney Foster, Robert Earl Keen and Patty Griffin, among many others. She began playing guitar and writing her own music when she was twelve and continued to grow as a musician traveling around the country and the world to share her voice with us all.
When Kylie had a guitar in her hands and sang that first note, you couldn’t look away. She was magic. Her music was soulful, raw, honest —and it gave her audience hope, courage and joy. She filled every room with her smile, laughter and genuine spirit. Kylie was a ray of Texas sunshine.
Above anything else, she lived each moment for her daughter Corbie. Neither could go a minute without singing and you would often find them on stage belting Sheryl Crow from the same mic. They were inseparable.
Kylie is preceded in death by her father, Mark Harris, as well as many others who influenced her life and musical career. She is survived by her mother, Betsy Cowan; stepfather, Brent Cowan; stepmother, Sonja Harris; daughter, Corbie Rae Watkins; father of Corbie and loving friend, Jeremy Watkins; siblings: Randee Harris, Claire Cowan, Jesse and Michelle Cowan; nephews, Mason Harris and Jacob Cowan; and countless family members and friends.
