A man in northern Michigan almost froze to death New Year’s Eve, but his dog saved him!
The man walked out of his house to grab firewood when he slipped and fell on ice…and broke his neck. He was all alone and couldn’t move his legs, so all he could do was yell for help. The man’s closets neighbor lives about a quarter mile away. He was sure he was going to freeze to death.
Luckily the man’s dog was with him, a golden retriever named Kelsey. She laid down on top of him to keep him warm, and ended up saving his life.
The man was out there for about 20 hours, and temperatures got down to about 20 degrees that night. The man’s neighbor finally came to check on him after the dog wouldn’t stop barking after several hours.
The man had hypothermia when he showed up at the hospital and a herniation, in the neck , which was causing the spinal cord weakness or paralysis in the legs. After his surgery the man was able to move again, but will be on a long road to recovery.
“I am so thankful for my two heroes,” Bob said. “Kelsey kept me warm, alert, and never stopped barking for help. Dr. Colen saved my life and ability to move. They are truly heroes and I will be eternally grateful.”
Kelsey proves to us all that dogs really are man’s best friend.
