Giving Tuesday Facts
The Salvation Army of Austin is proud to be a part of the on-line Giving Tuesday on November 28, a day following the shop-happy holidays of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday has become a charitable movement powered by the people. Let’s make a difference for our neighbors in need.
Last year, more than 45,000 organizations in 71 countries came together to celebrate Giving Tuesday. Since its founding in 2012, Giving Tuesday has inspired giving around the world, resulting in greater donations, volunteer hours and activities that bring about real change in communities.
Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate the generosity of our donors.
Giving Tuesday inspires people to take actions to improve their local communities, give back in better, smarter ways to charities and causes they celebrate and help create a better world.
Salvation Army Austin is helping people move from crisis to self-sufficiency right here in our community 365 days a year.
- Last year The Salvation Army sheltered 3,000 people in Austin,
providing almost 149,000 nights of shelter - …and 450,000 meals right here in our community.
We are only able to do this because of community support, and we invite everyone to give today – make a donation that is meaningful for you, and together we can give people in our community a hand up for a better future. We also invite people to volunteer to ring a bell – lots of shifts still open! Or play music at a red kettle – whatever music you play whether you’re a school group, a singer-songwriter, or you just love to play the spoons! Come make music at a red kettle.
People can help by making an online donation at SalvationArmyAustin.org and clicking on the Giving Tuesday banner on the homepage.
