The tree where Red finds Andy’s note at the end of “The Shawshank Redemption” is no more. The oak had stood in a field in Mansfield, Ohio for 200 years, but it was rotting in the middle, and in 2011, part of it was knocked down during a storm. It suffered, even more, damage in a storm last summer.
Qwner Dan Dees finally got rid of what was left of it, so he could use the field for farming. He’s had offers for the wood, but he’s going to use at least some of it himself.
He says, quote, “I don’t have any big plans for it, other than to make a table out of it, or a bench. I’ve got some design plans…it would be really cool. It would be a movie theme.”
