Once again, I have found myself out of shape and not being able to fit in most of my jeans. Sigh. I feel like I have been down this road one too many times in the past few years. I will get motivated lose weight and get in shape and then…life happens. I get to where I feel good again and then I think, “Oh I’m skinny again, I can eat whatever I want all the time and I will stay this way.” WRONG. The harsh reality is I am not in my early 20’s anymore, and my body has made that very clear. I have always been decently active, I played sports in high school, worked out on and off through college and was able to maintain the same weight. However, like I said, I can’t eat whatever I want all the time, drink beer and expect not to gain weight. I’m not saying I’m old, I’m just saying that it is a change that my body is going through.
I won’t lie to you. I was intimidated by Onnit Gym. I have been in a ton of gyms before but this place really knows what they are doing. It’s different than your average gym. There isn’t a bunch of treadmills and elliptical machines and dumbbells everywhere. I guess I was intimidated because of the unknown. I didn’t know what the work outs would entail. I wasn’t sure what the hell I just got myself into.
I went in for my fitness evaluation, extremely nervous! I knew I was super out of shape and didn’t want to embarrass myself. I met with Ty and he was super nice and reassured me that everything was going to be fine and we all start from somewhere. I did the body analysis part. Gross. No woman likes a scale anyways, but this sucker tells you just how much fat you have out of your body weight. That was a nice little reality slap. No more noodles for me! We then moved to the workout part. I didn’t die! I made it through but I was EXTREMELY sore for days! I have a second floor apartment and I honestly almost cried trying to go down the stairs. This was a great wake up call for me. It showed me just how much I had fallen off the wagon.
This past Tuesday was my first workout training session with Aharon. He was awesome! He made me feel comfortable and talked me through the whole workout and explained why form for certain lifts and movements are so important. I really like that. The workout wasn’t as scary as I had it built up in my head. It was about an hour but that included stretching and 5 sets of 5 RDL’s (reverse dead lifts) and a circuit workout of 10 mins that included push-ups, reverse lat pulls on the rings( I think that’s what they are called) and reverse alternating lunges. It was a great workout. I didn’t feel like I was going to pass out, but I did felt great. I felt like I did the perfect amount, without pushing myself too far. I’m sore, but the good kind of sore, not the “I can’t even sit on the toilet without wanting to cry” kind of sore. I am already feeling better about myself and ready to keep trucking! Feel free to message me with questions! Ready to see where I can be in 13 weeks! #GetONNIT
