Josh Turner is country to the bone. His appreciation for the genre is unmatched and if you’ve been enjoying his Keepin’ It County outdoor acoustic series on YouTube you know he does a mean cover of just about any artist.
Well, know he’s taking it to the studio and releasing a cover album featuring appearances and songs from his Mount Rushmore of Country Music: Randy Travis, John Anderson, Johnny Cash, Vern Gosdin, and Hank Williams.
“I’ve always said that any song you hear coming from my voice, you’re going to hear bits and pieces of those five guys… They taught me how to be Josh Turner.”
One thing that makes this album huge is that it will feature Randy Travis. The first time he’ll lend his voice to an album since his stroke in 2013.
“Randy has always been my hero. He was the reason I wanted to become a country singer… He’s an inspiring figure, not just to me but to a lot of people, so to have him sing on this record is pretty special.”
Together they will sing the Travis hit ‘Forever and Ever, Amen’. We’ve heard Josh cover it with just a guitar out in the woods and it was amazing. Can’t wait to hear what they come up with in the recording booth.
The album features new artists such as Runaway June and Chris Janson. I’m really excited to hear Josh team up with the harmony masters Maddie and Tae with one of my favorite George Strait tracks ‘Desperately’.
So far the only song released is Hank Williams jr.’s ‘Country State Of Mind’ featuring Chris Janson.
