Internships

We are currently seeking Morning Show, Promotions and Sales interns. If you are interested in the radio business, this is a great place to build experience!

Interns will be responsible for preparing materials for the broadcast, updating the station website and social media accounts, editing and cutting the show podcast, doing other tasks as assigned by radio staff, and more!

This internship is unpaid, but can qualify for class credit. Recent graduates seeking experience are encouraged to apply.

SENIOR SALES ASSISTANT 

THE AUSTIN RADIO NETWORK has an opening for a SENIOR SALES ASSISTANT TO assist in all aspects of local and national sales. The Senior Sales Assistant will be responsible providing support for Sales Management and Sales Account Executives and working closely with them to help achieve the sales goals for the cluster. The position also includes maintaining and fostering positive relationships with internal departments as well as with clients and will act as a backup for the Traffic Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible, start to finish, for the sales documentation process, including research, generating sales proposals, tracking, making changes, , recaps, etc. for account executives.
  • Keep and update client records, pending avails, generate sales reports, client interaction and problem solving on a consistent basis
  • Oversees details before and after the sale such as production, traffic issues, copy, coop facilitation and continuity.
  • Other duties include updating prospect/client information, scheduling and coordinating logistics for internal meetings, and processing client requests.
  • Senior Sales Assistant will work with the Traffic Director and Office Coordinator  to share information and best practices as well as serve as each other’s backup during vacation and when otherwise needed.
  • Keep and update current files of station information
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information.
  • Foster positive relationships with internal departments and clients
  • Other responsibilities as needed and determined by the Market Manager

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of three years equivalent related work experience (media sales, promotions, executive administrative support,traffic ).
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and all Microsoft Office Products.
  • High Technical Knowledge of sales & media software for radio (Marketron /WideOrbit)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate professionally with people in a variety of capacities, such as management, co-workers, clients, etc.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail, accuracy and follow-through.
  • Ability to create and design professional, compelling presentation materials suitable for presenting to clients.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment with all levels of department personnel.

 SportsTalk / Play x Play Talent Position

Austin Radio Network is looking for a multi- dimensional air talent who has deep knowledge and passion for sports, fan engagement, and client service.  A minimum of two (2) years of SportsTalk and game day / play x play experience is required. While SportsTalk is the primary talk component, the candidate should feel confident talking about issues of the day.

The candidate should have experience with a partner and also be able to carry a show on their own. The candidate should also have digital & social media skills; a strong understanding of the programming/sales connection and be organized.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Writes and reads, or ad-libs segments to identify station, announce station breaks, commercials, etc.
  • Prepares and creates a topical show by gathering information from social media, web sites, periodicals and television.
  • Writes and publishes relevant content to social media and station website.
  • Conducts records and edits interviews with guests.
  • Interview members of listening audience.
  • Plans and attends in-person appearances and broadcasts including community events.
  • Maintains and builds a positive cooperative attitude within station departments.
  • Follow and enforces FCC regulations, station and company polices, including implementing station’s/state’s EAS procedures.
  • Performs additional duties such as production and assisting program director
  • Other duties assigned as-needed

Experience and Requirements:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree, Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Austin Radio Network Operations Manager

Job Summary:

The Operations Manager position is a leadership role with responsibilities for leading and managing all functions for successful operations of radio stations in a market. This position requires a person with a proven record of building and motivating high performing teams. The successful candidate will possess abilities to build and achieve ratings excellence and assist the sales department in revenue generation by utilizing the Austin Radio Network’s assets. This position requires to a minimum of three (3) years of experience in managing and directing a Radio programming team and  has worked with the Sales, Marketing , Business , and Traffic Departments within a Radio station.

 Responsibilities:

Protect the licenses of the radio stations by understanding and implementing all FCC broadcast rules and regulations.

· Work directly with Engineering and Information Technology Department to ensure technical compliance of all operations of radio stations.

· Manage and lead a programming team that meets or exceeds on-air and on-line goals by creating and implementing listener experiences using: on-air, on-line, on-site and through mobile devices .

· Hire, train, coach and develop an innovative programming, on-air and on-line staff.

· Provide operational counsel to stations with emphasis on productivity, cost, technology and production capabilities.

· Maintain a hands on approach in the areas of content strategy, talent management and promotion execution.

· Analyze ratings on a regular basis to reinforce or alternate strategy.

· Conduct regular staff meetings, both full and individual, to inform of directions and procedures of Company.

· Maintain current knowledge of trends in research, music and imaging.

· Understand and monitor market conditions in order to be proactive in strategy.

· Assist in creation and execution of all external marketing plans.

· Ensure commitment to community service through involvement in Local Advisory Board, partnerships with key sectors in the community and airing of Public Service Announcements.

· Communicate with Market  Manager to adhere to budgeted operational costs .

· Work with Sales to ensure sales team is delivering integrated media solutions for advertisers.

Qualifications:

· Experience in brand marketing and sales.

· Extensive knowledge of current FCC broadcast rules and regulations.

· Knowledge of Nielson PPM and/or Diary data analysis.

·Knowledge and appreciation for diverse music formats.

· Have an excellent on-air performance for programming and production.

· Three (3) years of experience in managing and directing a programming team.

· Have sound judgment and quality decision making skills.

· Ability to multi-task in a deadline-oriented business.

· Organized and comfortable delegating responsibility.

Board Operator 

Job Summary:

Provides programming and control board support to On-Air Talent.

Responsibilities:

• Operates control board for studios and remote programming.

• Regulates program timing, operates syndicated programming, and plays commercials.

• Monitors the technical quality and accuracy of incoming and outgoing on-air programming from master control room.

• Supports off-air commercial production, dubbing music to hard disk and programming automation computers.

• Protects station’s license by censoring live programs and deleting words/phrases not permitted on air.

• Executes playlists for server, tape, or simulcast programming.

• Assists with adjusting signal and programming content to ensure transmission meets federally mandated broadcast standards.

• Processes time-out programming for accurate play back.

• Monitors and updates weather, traffic and news reports into automation equipment.

• Checks studio equipment for proper functioning and notifies Engineering of technical malfunctions affecting quality of the broadcast.

• Screens in-coming phone calls and selectively chooses callers for On-Air Talent and talk shows.

• Handles emergency inserts (e.g. news updates, breaking stories, alert system tests, etc.).

Qualifications:

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Windows, Adobe Audition or similar audio editing software, Wide Orbit or similar automation system

• Time management and attention to detail

• Ability to work without close supervision

• Flexibility in work schedule, including evenings, overnight and weekends

• Functions well in a fast-paced environment with tight timeframes and multiple demands

• Works well in a team environment

Work Experience:

• 6 months in a related role and/or technical training

Education:
